Talk amongst yourselves

This is what I've been looking for, for a long time. Count me in, I wanna make this happen, it's a goal of mine to one day put out my own records and vinyls and stuff, and to have an active, creative collective of artists and listeners. T61 is the only site I've seen come close to that, and it's cool that we've all met up that way. I think the EFP album was pretty unique and we were the ones who started all that stuff, 6/1 day, etc. We're the most innovative and passionate group on T61, and if anyone could really make the push to have a label, it'd be us. We've got artists AND listeners and a solid network of people. Let's make it happen, y'all!

p.s. thanks to nickschober for getting me on this forum. look forward to talking to you guys more!

Just thinking about the record label and thought in addition to all of this, maybe the EF Records site could have a blog, or a few blogs maintained by dedicated music listeners which could review new electronic music and give updates in the world of electronic music, music software, hardware etc. as well as a database of resources of these things, kind of like a djtechtools.com kind of thing (But with blogs and reviews and stuff by more than one person, as djtechtools.com is mainly just ean golden i believe). It seems like people want more than just a label, something more like a music community with the label being a central hub, so if anyone on here already runs a blog/site of this sort, maybe you can get in on this with us and we can work together to expand this community.

Just a suggestion, but one I'm sure at least some of you will support.

Also, I'm not big on twitter, but I know many people are, so maybe a section of the site could show updates of some of the most popular electro artists' twitters (if they have one of course).
This goes back to the nin article thing of giving people constant updates and reasons to keep coming back to the site.

That's my most recent two cents, so talk amongst yourselves :-)

I'm not exactly clear on why everyone is against a record label with name Electro Freaks. The group we all come from is based on our love of electronic music, so to me Electro Freaks is a perfect fit to describe that.

I didn't get the vibe at all. Who, in particular, doesn't want the name?

I also don't understand where you got the idea people don't want that name. I just assumed it would be called the Electro Freaks or Electro Freaks Present or some variation of the words Electro and Freaks lol.

I saw posts ON the Freak wall and in some of those initial emails talking about names we should use because using Electro Freaks would be "limiting" ourselves.

Perhaps you can just abbreviate it to E.F. Records. That way you get the best of both worlds. It's seemingly professional and you know what it means.

Wow.
great ideas guys.

I wholly support any movemnet or action you take! that would be very, very cool to see.

Licencing: Definitly Creative Commons. Its easy, simple, and can be used in something like 50 -60 jurisdictions already!

Management: You simply must have a charter (constitution) and board of directors/and or/ executives. These should be elected people from your shareholders. (but don't have to be)

There are a number of ways to get this up and running:

Your initial group of shareholders (your founders) will get premium shares (call them A shares). From your founders, you should collect a starting investment ($50, 100, or 200) This will give you the small amount of seed money you need for startup costs. Artists that will sign to the label can pledge music instead of cash to start. (IE proceeds from their first sales will be taken up to the X amount.)

You have to have shares in the event you take on investment from external sources.

A simple explanation would be: if you have 10 founding members, everyone gets 2,000 shares. Hold a number of shares (30-40%) in trust, then If you take investors on, you can sell those reserve shares or create B class shares. The only differences between A class and B class is that you can write different rules for how you are paid profits and wether the shares have voting rights.

You key positions are:

CEO / Managing Director
CFO / Financial officer
COO / GM - operations, general manager, day to day operation

Marketing
Legal
Public Relations

You've got to have these key managers so that all of your projects, any other help/workers you have aiding you have someone to report to who is responsible for keeping delivery times and objectives.

Even from the get-go you should have a provisional board. This will help you in splitting up the work and organizing your volunteers.

Oh! I forgot the last, MAJOR point for why you should be shares based as a label: limited liability of the shareholders if you get your asses sued! hahaha
